The need for an effective HonorBound ministry
- As goes the father, so goes the family
- We miss the ministry potential of men
- If 100 people are saved and families percentage of families gained: Children –10 families; mothers –30 families; fathers – 90 families
Having a more effective HonorBound ministry
1. Promise Keeper studies indicate the most effective way that men change and grow
- 10 percent of men will never change
- 10 percent of men will change by receiving information
- 80 percent of men will change within the context of a relationship
- Only 1 in 20 Christian men have close friends with whom they share openly.
2. Small groups are the best tools for an effective HonorBound ministry
Small groups need to:
-
Be small - means no more than six men
-
Meet at least every two weeks; best every week
-
Consist of at least one mature Christian man facilitating
-
Be basic Pentecostal Bible studies
-
Include non-Bible study meetings for fun activities –rec. sports, construction, TV sports, church repairs and etc
3. Balancing events: Flow chart of how men should move into ministry
- Men’s Conferences
- Men’s Equipping Seminars
- Men’s Monthly Meetings
- Men’s Small Groups
- Ministry
The end result of having a more effective HonorBound ministry
-
- Christ centered men
- Spiritual leaders in the home and church
- Humble, teachable and useable men
- Men loyal to their pastor
- Disciples, soul winners and disciple makers all in one man
- Men that have a heart for other men
- Men that are faithful to the church, pastor and you
- Men that are available
- Men that are approved by your pastor
- Pastor supportive and pastor supporting
- Your vision and purpose must dovetail into the pastor’s vision and purpose for the church
- Your pastor doesn’t do the work, just shows up for the HonorBound events
- On a scale of 1-10 (1 being lowest score, 10 the highest) how would you rate your HonorBound ministry and meetings?
- Would you bring your unsaved friends to your meetings?
- What is our vision and purpose for this ministry?
- How well are we meeting the needs when 1 out of 20 Christian men have no close friends and 80 percent of men change through relationships
B. What is the make up of men in your church? (Use your church roster.)
- Break down the ages. Example: Teens, 20 year olds, 30 year olds and so on.
- Who are consistent in attending events, who are casual and those who have no involvement.
- Who can be used in the area of ministries such as cooking, clean up, set up, teaching, worship, small group leader, Royal Ranger representative, helping the Women’s Ministries out (child care and set up)
- Prayer – The key to any ministry
- Passion – its contagious
- More attendance: Personal invitation, personal pickup and personal follow up
- Ownership of the ministry – BE THERE
- Make them want to come back for more
- Move them towards small groups
- Plan around the church calendar and plan long range
- Celebrate successes, salvations and victories
- Are you hitting your goals and staying within the vision
- View the men and the ministry as having perpetual motion towards the cross
